How does the free intro lesson work? +

Every tutor on Approach Learning offers a free 20-minute introduction lesson. You book it directly through their profile with no payment required. It's a chance for your child to meet the tutor, ask questions, and see if the teaching style suits them — with no obligation to book further lessons.

How are tutors vetted and checked? +

All tutors undergo an Enhanced DBS check (including the Children's Barred List), identity verification, and mandatory safeguarding training before they can teach on the platform. We also verify academic qualifications and conduct a video interview. Lessons are recorded for safeguarding purposes.

What if we don't get on with our tutor? +

No problem at all. That's exactly what the free intro lesson is for. If you've already started regular lessons and want to switch, just let us know and we'll help you find a new tutor quickly — with no fees for switching.

Can I cancel lessons? +

Yes. Lessons can be cancelled free of charge up to 24 hours before the scheduled start time. Cancellations within 24 hours may incur a fee of 50% of the lesson cost to be fair to tutors who have reserved that time for your child.

How does the online classroom work? +

Our online classroom is fully browser-based — no downloads required. It includes video and audio, an interactive shared whiteboard, the ability to share screens and documents, and a text chat function. All lessons are recorded and stored securely.

Are lessons suitable for students with SEN? +

Many of our tutors have experience working with students with special educational needs including dyslexia, ADHD, autism, and more. You can filter tutors by SEN experience, and we always recommend discussing your child's needs in the free intro lesson to ensure a good fit.
